Chili Con Carne

Ingredients

  • 1 kg minced meat
  • 500 g red kidney beans – cooked
  • 5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1 chili pepper, chopped (or to taste)
  • 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 500 g tinned tomatoes with liquid – chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the oil and sauté the onion, chili pepper and garlic until the onion softens.
  2. Add the minced meat and cook while stirring until the beef browns.
  3. Add the tomatoes, salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder, paprika, oregano, cinnamon and cloves and cook covered for about 45 minutes.
  4. Add the kidney beans and cook for another 15 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks and serve hot.
