Dhania – Tips for Storing

Dhania is a staple in many homes. Here are some tips for keeping it fresh or preserving it for use at a later date.

  • Untie the bunch of dhania and clean remove any dead or wilted leaves. Separate the stems of dhania and place the bunch in about half a glass of water stems down. You can place a plastic bag over the top and secure it with a rubber band.
  • Wash and drain the dhania. Chop and place in a clean air tight container. Place in the fridge and use as required.
  • Place the dry dhania bunches in a plastic bag after removing the bad ones. Remove and wash as required.
  • Cut the roots of the dhania and remove any bad ones. Wrap the dhania in a clean kitchen towel. Place the wrapped dhania in a plastic container and place uncovered in the fridge. Do not put anything on top of the container.
  • Clean wash and chop the dhania. Fill ice cube trays with the dhania and then cover with water. Freeze to form ice cubes. Store ice cubes in a plastic bag or container. To use, simply drop the dhania ice cubes into your dish as required.
  • Clean and wash bunches of Shania. Place in batches in separate plastic bags. Add a little water and freeze.
  • Clean, wash and chop dhania. Drain and dry thoroughly. Roll the dhania up tightly in cling film to form a dhania roll/cylinder. Freeze. To use just chop of the amount you need.
  • Clean and wash dhania. Chop of roots and grind to a paste. Store in a container in the fridge. (Used in south-east Asian cooking.)
